Itinerary

Day 1The Voyage to the Past Begins | Arrive in Kochi

Begin your journey into India’s southern paradise by experiencing the “Queen of the Arabian Sea”. Here in Kerala’s capital, you will be met by a Trikon’s representative who will transport you from airport to your luxurious hotel. Exploring Cochin or Kochi as it is called now, one of India’s oldest port cities, is like stepping back in time. Wander through the spice markets where Romans, Arabs and Europeans would come to trade, and take in the finest natural harbour in the world. You have this evening to yourself, so explore, wander, or take a dip in the hotel pool.

Day 2Exploring the Queen of the Arabian Sea

Awake refreshed for your first full day in Kerala. Begin the day with a guided tour of Cochin, where we’ll explore the many epitaphs constructed by foreign settlers. Our first stop will be the Mattancherry Dutch Palace, followed by the Jewish Synagogue. After a visit of St. Francis Church, you will then journey out to see the famous Chinese Fishing Nets. Legend has it that these nets were brought here from the court of the Chinese Emperor, and are still used on the seacoast today. Our tour will conclude here, and the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

The evening will be an eclectic affair where you will learn the basics of two traditional South Indian dishes through an interactive lesson. Following the demonstration, you will be guided through to a sit-down dinner of customary Syrian Christian cuisine. The vast array of dishes, each with a unique flavour profile, will be rice-based, with a fish and meat accompaniment.

Meals Included: (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 3 - 4From Sea to Sky

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we begin the passage into Munnar, a lush hill station surrounded by lavish tea estates and rolling green hills. Keep an eye out for exotic wildlife and explore the area’s flora and fauna throughout the wild sanctuaries and native forests. After checking in at the hotel, drift across the cool, misty air with an evening walk through the tea plantations. The fragrant aroma of spices hangs all around you, making that steaming cup of tea welcome, back at the hotel.

Your second day in Munnar begins with an early start where we will visit the Eravikulam National Park. Here, you can observe the Tahr, an endangered animal native to the region. Other animal sightings include the Nilgiri Marten, the ruddy mongoose, the Small-Clawed Otter, and the dusky striped squirrel. We’ll stop at Shrishti Natural Deli for a lunch of breads, samosas, puffs and rolls, biryani, cakes and cookies. This impressive eatery is managed and run by speech impaired and handicapped locals. The evening is your time to visit the bustling markets of Munnar for some unique souvenirs and locally-made handicrafts.

Once we arrive in Kumarakom, we will check in to the tranquil Coconut Lagoon. You can spend your day marveling at the colors of the many species in the Butterfly Garden, observing traditional village life and locals commuting to the market by river, relaxing under a palm with a good book in hand, or wander over the little wooden bridge into the Ayurveda Center where experienced physicians and professionals can guide you on everything from natural beauty to rejuvenation and healing through the ancient practices of Ayurvedic medicine.

You will sail down the mystical rivers of the backwaters, anchoring down for lunch with the resonances of nature as your soundtrack. Lunch will be served in a typical Kerala style, on a banana leaf. Dig in to the array of delicacies before you, and those adventurous enough can learn how to eat with their fingers, demonstrated by your escort. We will continue our cruise down narrow canals, and enjoy a dinner al fresco. Tonight you will be lulled to sleep by the undulations of the waters, under an open galaxy of stars.
